Who We Need

We are looking for a talented and motivated Lawyer with 2–5 years' post-admission experience to join our Griffith Hack Law & Trade Marks team in Perth.

This is an excellent opportunity to work across a broad range of intellectual property matters, including trade marks, patents, designs, IP disputes and litigation, and commercial agreements. You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team of patent attorneys, trade mark attorneys and IP lawyers, while continuing to develop your technical expertise, commercial acumen and client relationships.

This role can accommodate full-time or part-time hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the provision of strategic advice in relation to intellectual property rights, across the breadth of patents, trade marks, designs and ancillary rights.
• Filing, prosecution and registration of trade marks in Australia, New Zealand and overseas.
• Devising search strategies and drafting trade mark clearance advices.
• Assisting on trade mark opposition matters and non-use proceedings, including preparing evidence and submissions.
• Preparing and assisting with domain name disputes.
• Filing Customs Notices with the Australian Border Force.
• Preparing cease and desist letters.
• Assisting on IP litigation in the Federal Court of Australia for patents, trade marks, designs and ancillary rights.
• Drafting commercial agreements including licence agreements, non-disclosure agreements and manufacturing agreements.
• Establish good rapport with clients by responding professionally and promptly to queries and requests.
• Take every opportunity to grow your understanding of the client’s business and commercial goals.
• Participate in client conversations.
• Accurately record all billable and non-billable time and manage work in progress (WIP).
• Maintain a good understanding of your progress against individual and team financial targets and actively communicate workload and capacity to your supervisor and other senior members of the group.
• Seek to learn more about business drivers and effective practice management.
• Contribute to marketing and business development activities on a regular basis, including writing articles for the Griffith Hack website, hosting educational sessions for clients, and promoting yourself and Griffith Hack via LinkedIn.
• Have the ambition to lead and own your professional and personal development and actively seek opportunities to build technical and commercial skills.
• Contribute positively to the broader team culture and collaborate effectively across practice groups.
• Demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

About You

You'll bring:

• 2–5 years' post-admission experience in intellectual property law.
• Admission as a Lawyer in Australia.
• Experience or a strong interest in areas such as trade marks, patents, designs, IP disputes, litigation or commercial IP work.
• Strong legal research, analytical and drafting skills.
• Good commercial drafting skills and a developing understanding of commercial drivers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to consistently produce high-quality work.
• Good time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing deadlines.
• The ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
• A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work autonomously while knowing when to seek guidance.
• A Bachelor of Laws, with a combined degree or science specialty preferred.
